Retained NeoNatal reflexes

Retained Neonatal Reflexes

Retained neonatal reflexes (RNRs) refer to primitive reflexes that are typically present in infants but should diminish or integrate as a child grows and develops. These reflexes are automatic movements or responses that babies are born with and are essential for survival, motor development, and neurological maturation. However, as higher brain functions mature and nervous systems develop that should integrate. In some cases, if these reflexes persist beyond their typical developmental time frame, they are considered "retained." When these reflexes persist into later childhood or adulthood, they can potentially interfere with normal motor, sensory, or cognitive development.
